Small Business Health Care Tax Credit
As a small-business owner, you may qualify for a federal tax credit to help offset the cost of providing health insurance to your employees by purchasing coverage through Healthcare.gov.
Offering health coverage through the SHOP Marketplace is the only way to qualify for the Small Business Health Care Tax Credit (SBHCTC), which is designed to make health insurance more affordable for very small businesses (fewer than 25 employees) with low to moderate wage workers.
To qualify for a tax credit, employers must contribute at least 50 percent of their employee premium costs. The maximum available tax credit is 50 percent of insurance premium expenses and is available for a total of two consecutive years.
